Two Old Friends, a.k.a Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins, will perform in the library Program Room on Tuesday, April 12 from 7-8:15 p.m.

McHale and Hutchins, musicians now based in Maine, note that “many of the rhythms found in American country music originated in the British Isles, and early American performers such as the Carter Family and Jimmie Rogers were strongly influenced by this music.” McHale and Hutchins will sing and play guitar, banjo, bodhran, and concertina.

Their appearance in Bolton is free of charge and open to everyone.

Join moderator Roger Breeze for discussions about local history (4/6 and 4/13; always on the first and second Wednesday of each month, and always starting at 1 p.m.) and for genealogy instruction (4/20, and always the third Monday of each month starting at 1 p.m.). All sessions are open to everyone and free of charge.

Used book sale

The Friends of the Library’s semiannual used book sale will be held on Saturday, March 26 from 7 a.m. till 1 p.m. Location is Emerson School, Mechanic St., Bolton. Come out for great bargains! Proceeds from the sale fund museum passes, programs, and much more.

WHEN: Saturday, March 26th from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Thursday, March 31 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

WHERE: Library Program Room

BRING: your e-reader, laptop, iPad, or iPhone. Even if you don’t have one of these items, you’re welcome to attend.

Almost every e-reader is compatible with the library’s digital catalog (unfortunately, Amazon.com’s Kindle is not).

Sup & Share with Bolton Local

Thursday, 3/17 at 6:30 p.m. “Sup & Share”

Join Bolton Local at the Library for a light supper of finger food, followed by a screening of the documentary “Growing Greener Schools.” “Growing Greener Schools” shows examples of American schools’ change to sustainable practices and policies, and their teaching of environmental lessons. It notes the effects on students in terms of test scores, health, and attendance, as well as saving school districts money. There are local efforts to “green” the schools, and this film will give food for thought and future action. This “Sup and Share” event is free of charge and open to everyone. Supper is at 6:30 (participants are asked to bring their own place settings) and movie at 7. Running time is 90 minutes.

Stitch & Sip Needlework Group

You asked, so here it is: the first meeting of the library’s new gathering for needleworkers!

Bring your knitting, crochet, cross-stitch, quilting, or other needlework project. Learn new skills, meet and make friends, and enjoy light refreshments.

Tonight is UFO night. Bring an unfinished project for show and tell. Perhaps the group will encourage you to the finish line (…or provide an opaque trash bag for responsible disposal).

Mark your calendar for the 4th Wednesday of every month, when regular meetings will occur.

First Thursdays

Beginning on March 3, 2011, a new event for adults @ the library.

The Friends of the Library’s Learn From Your Neighbor lecture series is changing its name and format to First Thursdays @ the Library. First Thursday programs may include movies, lectures, or other events. Start time is 7:30 p.m. Programs are sponsored by Friends of the Bolton Public Library.

Our schedule for the next several months is as follows:

3/3 – Beekeeper Tricia Pishock introduces the world of bees.

4/7 – Tea tasting with Cathie from Sincerely Tea. Learn about the history of tea, and sample brews from around the world.

5/5 - Professional organizer Carol Ehrlich gives tips on conquering the clutter in your life.

6/2 – TBA
