How do I…? (FAQ)

Can I get a library card?

To get a library card, you must be at least 5 yrs old and be a MA resident.  You will need a photo ID or a piece of mail with your current Massachusetts address.  A parent or legal guardian can provide an ID for those too young to have one.

What do I do if I lose my card?

First, notify the library so that we can help make sure your card isn’t subject to unauthorized use. To replace a card, we normally charge a $3 replacement fee.

What museum passes does the library have?

The library has passes to many local attractions.  Click here for a full list.

Can I reserve space at the library?

The library has two spaces that can be reserved: the Program Room (for information, click here) and a 2 seat quiet study room. The latter can be reserved by calling the library on the day of intended use.

Does the library have wireless?

Yes, it is available throughout the building.  No password is required.

What if the item I’m looking for is not at the Bolton Public Library?

The library is part of the C/W Mars network.  You may request items from other C/W Mars member libraries to be picked up here.  If necessary, the staff will search beyond central MA to find the material you’re looking for.

Can I return item from other libraries in Bolton?

Yes.   Items from any of the C/WMars participating libraries can be returned here.  Also, materials from Bolton can be returned at other C/WMars libraries.  Out-of-network items can be returned here, but because they cannot be checked in, they may incur late fees while in transit to the owning library.

Do you charge late fees?

We do not charge daily late fees on our items.  However, when an item reaches “billed” status (at 28 days overdue), we impose a $3 nonrefundable billing fee per item.   Other libraries may also impose late fees for materials on your account. To avoid late fees, renew items you wish to keep past the due date.  For your convenience, we provide a reminder service via email.

How do I renew an item?

You have 3 options for renewing: via phone (call us at the library and we can do it over the phone),  via home online service (log into your account), or in person (come to the library during open hours).  Please note that items may be renewed one time, and may not be renewed at all when others are waiting for them.

How do I access my account online?

To login you can click on the link located on the top right on our website or use the login link at the top of the C/W Mars catalog (http://www.cwmars.org).  You will be asked to enter your library card number and PIN.  When you login for the first time, you will be asked to create a PIN.

How does the library use my personal information?

The library uses personal information you provide during the registration  process for library use only.  We never share, rent, or otherwise distribute your personal information to anyone outside the library for any reason unless legally compelled to do so (e.g., when presented with a search warrant).

Does the library keep a history of what I’ve borrowed?

No, we do not.  Our only records are of items active on your account.  When you return an item, our ability to see your connection to that item is severed and cannot be recovered.  For a limited time, with our current system, you can establish a reading history; however, during 2012 our software will be changing and the reading history will not carry over.  You may wish to keep reading history on a site like Goodreads or a program like Excel.

Can I get e-books for my Kindle?

Yes. The library offers a collection of e-media  through the C/WMars Digital Catalog.  The supported devices for downloading e-books now includes Kindle.  To get started with the library’s free ebooks, go to http://www.digitalbooks.cwmars.org
